The Masters of Education degree online program (MEd) is suited to Learners who want to combine a strong understanding of current theory and practice in education and/or organizational leadership with their personal needs and career focus. The education degree online program also provides Learners with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for doctoral level study.
Curricula reflecting the preparation guidelines of national learned societies and groups are designed to provide Learners with an opportunity to select electives or a specialization and focus their studies on courses that meet their individual needs.
Objectives
A major objective of the Masters of Education degree online program is to enable Learners to develop individual skills for solving particular educational and/or organizational problems, whether in teaching, supervision, or administration, while keeping solutions in balance with organizational, institutional, community, or school system needs and expectations.
A second objective is to facilitate Learners’ acquisition of sound principles and techniques essential to working effectively in a wide range of instructional or organizational settings.
Requirements
Learners working toward the M.Ed. degree complete 36 semester credits of coursework beyond the bachelors degree with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 (B) or higher. This is equivalent to 12 graduate courses. The School of Education provides the M.Ed. Learner with the opportunity to customize their degree based on their own professional goals and needs, through diverse elective course and/or specialization offerings.
The School of Education curriculum emphasizes a combination of learning theory, instructional strategies, and technology integration for educators working with any grade level, and within professional associations, organizations or as a consultant.
Learners who plan on pursuing state licensing or certification through their coursework are advised to check state or national requirements before selecting a course of study, as teacher certification is generally governed by state or provincial government and as such, may vary significantly from one jurisdiction to the next.
This specialization prepares Learners to excel in higher education leadership and to pursue careers as higher education specialists and managers. The focus is on legal issues, finance, and organizational leadership in higher education.
